Preserving Your Favorite Clothing

Every new year is an excuse to purge the old and welcome the new. We love new clothes as much as the next person, but you'd be surprised how many new outfits you can make by refreshing the wardrobe you already have and caring for your investment pieces properly.

Dependable Cleaners' reveals their top six tips for preserving your favorite clothing:

  • Have a tailor ensure your attire fits properly. Ill fitting clothes can make a fabulous outfit look unflattering.
  • Dont trash the old sweater covered in lint balls (pills). De-pill a sweaters with a dog brush or razor and make that old sweater look like new again.
  • Make sure your suit jackets are properly tailored. At least one quarter of your blouse should be visible below the end of your jacket sleeve. Suit jackets should be tapering at the waistline to create a finished curved appearance.
  • Protect winter coats from salt, and dirt. Ask your dry cleaner about protective stain repellent that can be a big help to keeping your coat looking great over the long winter months.
  • Add new buttons to instantly transform a blouse or coat from a spring feel to a winter look or from modern to vintage.
  • Address stains and spills. Dark clothes, such as black, and navy are “in” for the winter season – however they can also draw attention to old stains or spills. Have a cleaning expert use a black-light test to detect the most obscure stains and blemishes and get your clothes looking brand new!

I left a pin on a jacket that got cleaned. I was impressed with the staff when I got my jacket back, the pin was in a bag in the pocket. - Mark B
